You should refer to named plant species likely to be found growing at different sites and to influencing factors such as shelter, pH, water table and distance from the sea. You should also by now be familiar with the terms colonisation, pioneer species and climax vegetation and be utilising these in this answer. (16 marks)

Higher - Revision for NAB Part II

Here is a framework of things which you will need to know for the upcoming NAB on Rural Land Resources -

• how glacial features such as corries, u-shaped valleys and ribbon lakes are formed
• be familiar with glacial processes eg. plucking, abrasion and freeze-thaw
• discuss which land uses are best suited to glaciated upland areas
• identify land use and features from an OS map (and give map evidence)
• explain the role of a National Park and other organisations involved in the upkeep of areas of glaciated scenery
• outline the main possible land use conflicts which may arise in a National Park/glaciated upland area
• suggest solutions to the above conflicts and comment on their usefulness
• link all of the above to a studied area eg. the Lake District and give named examples of features, towns and groups involved in the area
